Healthy Breeding in the Spotlight as WSAVA World Congress 2017 Heads to Copenhagen
Delegates urged to book before the Early Bird deadline of 30 May 2017
A lecture stream on Healthy Breeding forms part of the comprehensive scientific program for this year’s World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) World Congress, set to take place in Copenhagen from 25-28 September 2017. Hereditary Disease was selected as a focus topic because of growing concerns about the risks of inherited conditions and the welfare issues they raise for companion animals. In addition to the lecture stream, a roundtable discussion on Brachycephalic Syndrome will be hosted jointly by the WSAVA and the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA).
The WSAVA’s new Global Dental Guidelines will also be launched during World Congress. Aimed at enhancing standards of veterinary dentistry around the world and bridging what the WSAVA views as a gap in veterinary education, they will set the ‘gold standard’ for dentistry but will also suggest minimum standards of equipment and care for veterinarians in parts of the world where companion animal practice is still developing. Vaccination, nutrition and pain management are already served by WSAVA Guidelines with further work now underway to create the first Welfare Guidelines.
The WSAVA represents more than 200,000 veterinarians worldwide through 101 member associations. Its annual World Congress brings together globally respected experts to offer cutting edge thinking on all aspects of companion animal veterinary care. Master classes and lectures from the WSAVA 2017 Award winners are also included for 2017, together with a social program organized by the Danish Small Animal Veterinary Association (DSAVA) to offer delegates the opportunity to relax with colleagues from around the world.

Our colleagues at DSAVA have put together a scientific program which will give all members of the veterinary team new thinking, ideas and approaches that they will be able to implement as soon as they return and which will benefit both their patients and the practice. They have also developed a social program which will give us all an insight into Danish life.

What they will learn in lectures will be matched by the experience of meeting colleagues from around the world.
